BASS LAKE – A father and son who were forced from their home in the Shadow Hills area of Southern California by the Creek Fire, retreated to their vacation home near Bass Lake.

However, tonight that home was completely destroyed by fire.

Just after 9:30 p.m., the homeowner noticed smoke in the attic area and called 911. The first engine at scene reported smoke and flames coming from the roof, and within minutes the fire had spread throughout the 3-story log home on Taylor Ridge Road.

Both father and son got out of the house and could only watch as the home was totally destroyed.

The fire spread to some of the trees surrounding the structure, and large embers drifted across the road, landing on trees, grass and neighboring homes.

Firefighters patrolled the area to make sure no new starts were sparked by the large amount of ember cast.

Neighbors who had horses got trailers hitched to trucks and stood ready to evacuate should it become necessary.

As of 11:30 p.m., the fire has not yet been contained.

The Creek Fire is reported at 85 percent containment at this hour, giving hope that their home in in Southern California is safe for their return.
