A fire that started in vegetation at the intersection of Roads 415 and 416 has been stopped just short of 5 acres.
Crews were called out at 12:35 p.m. Sept. 11, to the “Gold Fire,” about 4 miles southwest of Coarsegold. It was burning on a fairly steep slope, but crews got a line around it quickly and helicopter water drops helped in getting the blaze contained at 1:33 p.m.
Traffic controls were implemented in the area to allow safe movement of equipment to and from the fire, and were lifted within a few hours.
The Gold Fire is contained and controlled at this hour, and crews are working on mop-up. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
