Jerry passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at his home in Butte, Nebraska.

Memorials may be directed to his family for future designation. Arrangements are entrusted to Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill, NE.

Jerry Alin Saueressig was born on March 17, 1947, in Cherokee, IA, to Vernon and LaVina (Helkenn) Saueressig. He lived in Holstein, IA, until he was ten years old. The family then moved to La Mirada, CA.

Jerry enjoyed gymnastics, body surfing, and model cars while young. He graduated from La Mirada High School in 1965.

After high school, Jerry served in the United States Air Force as a billeting clerk in Florida. He was discharged in 1970 and worked at Sky Lake Camp in the maintenance department. Using his GI Bill, Jerry attended Fresno City College and later Fresno State and Bethany Bible College.

Jerry met Shirley Hazen at church in January of 1974. The couple married a few months later on June 1, 1974, in Scotts Valley, CA, and two children were added to the family: Jedidiah and Heather.

The family made their home in Oakhurst, CA, where Jerry worked for the Yosemite Union High School District as a bus driver and warehouse manager until his retirement in 1997. Jerry and Shirley then moved to Butte, NE in 2001.

Jerry was an active member of the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Butte, NE. Jerry also enjoyed the outdoors: photography, fishing, hiking, camping, mowing yards around town, and working on his truck.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 48 years, Shirley; children Jed of Copperopolis, CA, and Heather (Mark) Conti of Bass Lake, CA; two grandchildren, Ethan Conti and Jacob Conti; two sisters, Janis (Bob) Curry of Victor, MT, and Jane (Mike) Yanez of Huntington Beach, CA; one niece and many cousins.

Jerry is preceded by his parents, Vernon and LaVina (Helkenn) Saueressig.
