Janet Matson
December 24, 1948 – January 17, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Janet Matson on January 17, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on December 24, 1948, in Wichita, Kansas, she was the cherished daughter of the late Forrest and Eleanor (Doty) Barney.
Janet graduated from Prairie State College in 1983 with a degree in Nursing. Throughout her career, she dedicated herself to caring for oncology, home health, and hospice patients. Later, she worked with preschoolers in the Head Start program until her retirement in 2017. Her compassion and nurturing spirit extended beyond her professional life into her deep faith. Janet was a constant source of love and strength, always sharing the love of Jesus wherever she went.
An avid hiker and painter, Janet also loved singing and spending quality time with her family. She regularly attended her grandchildren’s events and always seized the opportunity to share the gospel with others.
Janet was a devoted wife to her late husband, Mark Matson, a loving mother, and a doting grandmother. She leaves behind her children: Chris (Kim) Hearn, Molly (Andrew) Curry, Karen (Kevin) Forbes, Holly (Gilbert) Urquizu, Christy Gorden, and Mark (Larysa) Matson.
As well as, her grandchildren: Katie Wilcox, Carter Genevieve, Courtney Curry, Megan and Savannah Forbes, Rachel and Evan Urquizu, and Dominic Gorden.
Honoring Janet Matson
A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor on March 29, 2025, at the Oakhurst Evangelical Church in Oakhurst, CA, at 10:00 a.m. Everyone who knew and loved Janet is invited to celebrate her remarkable life and the profound impact she made on those around her.
Janet’s warmth, wisdom, and unwavering faith left an indelible mark on her family and everyone who knew her. Everyone fortunate enough to know her will deeply miss her but remember her lovingly.
