Car Fire Spreads Into Vegetation On Sky Ranch

OAKHURST – A car fire on Road 632 (Sky Ranch Road) has sparked a vegetation fire, now reported at 5 acres, 1.8 miles up from Highway 41.

Some engines responding to the fire first had to make their way through the road blockage on Highway 41 north of Coarsegold, due to a fatal motorcycle accident that was reported at the same time as the Sky Fire.

The Incident Commander reports this fire has a dangerous rate of spread, and that it jumped the road. It is reportedly burning away from homes at this time.

Motorists trying to travel up Sky Ranch Road are being turned around by Sheriff’s deputies at the scene. No estimated time for re-opening the road.

Calvin Crest is being notified of the fire, though if they have to evacuate, they will need to head up into the high country as the road is blocked.

One air tanker previously working the Triangle Fire has been dropping retardant on the Sky Fire, however being low on fuel, they are returning to Columbia, and a helicopter will be taking over.
