Candace is sure enjoying her retirement life. Enjoying the outdoors, hiking Yosemite National Park and the surrounding Wilderness areas is one of her favorite things to do. Sometimes her chow hound Sally accompanies her on her adventures. But she finds that she can’t play every day. There are chores to do. Living in the foothills requires some hard work and not all of it is as glamorous as the hiking part. Candace retired from CAL Fire as a Region Chief and is finding that her retirement life is quite different from her days of preparing for and commanding emergency incidents throughout the state. She was assigned as the CAL Fire Unit Chief for the Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit 1996-2001, also serving as the Madera County Fire Chief during that period. She has a degree (B.S.) in Forestry from Humboldt State University.
Candace,
Love your articles. Great detail and beautiful photo. Would it be possibly to note if horses are allowed on the trails, as you do for dogs. You wouldn’t need to evaluate the trail from a rider’s perspective (unless you feel comfortable in doing so). Just knowing if horses are allowed or not would be great.
Thanks for all you do.
Thank you KLR for your comment and really kind words about the blog. Horses are allowed on this trail and I will try and include this information on future blogs.
Hu Candace,
Thanks for including your equestrian research on your recent Redwood Canyon trip!
Wish I could have added more, ty Kathy.
Thank you for your many posts. I have enjoyed your hiking trips. They take me back to the days when I was able to go on hikes and back packing trips. The many pictures compliment you commentary well.
Chuck
Thank you so very much Chuck. Where were some of your favorite hikes/backpacks around here?
