CalTrans to Begin Crosswalk Construction for SR 140

MARIPOSA — The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is preparing to begin crosswalk construction work on State Route 140 (SR- 140). The work will take place through downtown Mariposa as part of the SR-140 Pavement Improvement Project.

The work is scheduled to begin Thursday, October 24. It will continue through Monday, November 25 2024, with overnight construction and weekend traffic controls.

The construction work will replace seven crosswalks located on SR- 140 in Mariposa between 4th Street and 12th Street. It will include new lighting and stamped concrete to the roadway surface.

Caltrans will have weekend alternating lane closures in place on eastbound and westbound SR- 140. This is for the safety of motorists, pedestrians, roadway workers and equipment.

The construction schedules are as follows:

  • One-way traffic control on eastbound SR- 140 from Street to SR-49 North for crosswalk construction beginning Thursday, October 24, at 7:00 p.m., continuing through Monday, October 28, 2024, at 6:00 a.m.
  • One-way traffic control on westbound SR-140 from 6th Street to SR-49 North for crosswalk construction beginning Thursday, October 31, at 7:00 p.m., continuing through Monday, November 4, 2024, at 6:00 a.m.
  • No construction work scheduled over Veterans Day weekend from Thursday, November 7, through Monday, November 11, 2024.
