MARIPOSA COUNTY — The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) issued a long-term full closure of State Route 140 (SR-140) near Briceburg in Mariposa County as the result of a rockslide event. Since then, they have announced they will be re-opening the route for one-lane traffic.
Re-Opening State Route 140
Caltrans and Teichert Construction have made good progress in removing the rockslide debris and making needed repairs to the roadway this week.
Fortunately, Caltrans re-opened SR-140 on Wednesday, March 26th, 2025. The route now operates under one-lane traffic control. This applies from the Savage Trading Post to the west of the Ferguson Rock Shed Project for motorists. Caltrans emphasizes prioritizing the safety of the public, crews, and contractors working on the repairs is the top concern. Motorists should expect delays ranging from 5 to 10 minutes. They are advised to exercise caution, slow down, and move over through the construction zone.
The re-opening schedule is subject to weather, availability of equipment, materials, and or construction-related issues. Caltrans urges travelers to stay informed by checking road conditions in real time before setting out. Check road conditions through the Caltrans QuickMap website or its mobile app.
