BGC Kids take a field trip to Reimer’s in Oakhurst

Submitted by Peggy Decker

OAKHURST – Summer 2015 came and went with a fun rush at our Oakhurst Boys & Girls Club. By July we had 76 new members join for our summer festivities.

Among our activities were local weekly field trips to the Yosemite High School pool.

Thank you to Martha for your generous donation to offset pool admission fees for our members!

We also took a trip to Reimer’s Candy, and monthly BBQ’s filled our summertime, along with movies, arts and crafts, garden club, Books for Bikes, skate park activities, and Pathfinder tournaments.

Field trips to the valley found our members at Wild Waters not once but twice, along with Blackbeard’s, and the Fresno Chaffee Zoo.

Back at the Club we had a “new-to-us” organ donated: it makes lots of cool synthesized sounds. Thank you, Tim and Martha.

We spent a lot of time playing in the hose and having water squirt wars, and also had a tie-dye festival, where all of our members took home a free tee shirt.

Olympic Day was celebrated at the YHS pool, and we spent time teaching the kids about the Summer Olympic Games, and what it takes to be a great athlete. For Garden Club, we planted tomatoes and sunflowers in the garden and enjoyed watching them grow all season. Thanks, Jessica!

Our whole staff team attended the Central Valley Conference at the end of July to hone our skills, while networking with other Clubs from all over the state and country. We brought back new games and programs that will be used in the future, and gained new ideas that other Clubs use that can work for our site.

Now we’re in the second week of a jam-packed school year with lots of fun activities, events, and programs.

Special thanks this summer to all those who helped out with donations, field trips, arts and crafts, and anything else I may have missed. Summer 2015 wouldn’t have been as smooth without you!
