Boy Scout Troop 357 Hosts Recruitment Night

NORTH FORK —  Boy Scout Troop 357 is inviting boys aged 11 to 17, as well as boys as young as 10 who are in 5th grade, to a special recruitment night.  The event encourages parents to join their sons to learn about the organization and what it has to offer.

Through hands-on experiences, Troop 357 provides members with essential life skills and a strong sense of community responsibility.  Specifically, Scouts learn to try new things, serve others, boost their self-confidence, and make ethical choices while exploring the outdoors.  Furthermore, they develop practical skills such as first aid, cooking, camping, and map-and-compass navigation.   In addition, Troop 357 members participate in local improvement activities like planting trees and road cleanup.  By participating in local improvement projects like these, Scouts discover the importance of contributing to the community and building good citizenship.

Exploring the Outdoors & Beyond

Along with community service, the troops enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, including:

  • camping
  • swimming
  • hiking
  • backpacking

Each summer, Scouts spend time at Camp Chawanakee along Shaver Lake.  There, they dive into a week of outdoor learning and bonding.

In addition to regular activities, Troop 357 has taken memorable trips to places like Death Valley, the Bodie Ghost Town, and Morro Bay.  Recently, they hiked to the Hite Cove mining site on the Merced River and visited the Castle Air Museum.  During fall of 2022, the troop explored Columbia State Park and rode on the steam train at Railtown 1897.  Moreover, in September 2023, the Scouts camped at New Melones Reservoir and toured Mercer Caverns, Murphys, and the Angles Camp Museum.

Parents and boys interested in joining North Fork Troop 357 are encouraged to attend the recruitment night.   This event offers a closer look at the values, skills, and unique experiences scouting brings.
