Ashworth Fire Arson Arrest in Mariposa County

MARIPOSACalifornia Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) Law Enforcement Officers arrested 31-year-old Gino Galileo Luciani on Wednesday, July 12th, 2023, in Mariposa County.

Through an extensive investigation, Luciani was identified as the suspect responsible for igniting a vegetation fire on July 12th, 2023. The Ashworth Fire occurred in the Bootjack area in Mariposa County. The fire burned approximately 2.1 acres of vegetation and threatened one residential structure.

Luciani was arrested on felony charges of suspicion of arson to forest land, PC 451(c). For more information, contact the Mariposa County District Attorney’s Office.

The arrest and comprehensive investigation were a collaborative effort between CAL FIRE Law Enforcement and Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office.

“We don’t take arsonists lightly, we have all seen first hand the devastation they can cause. We use every resource necessary to ensure our communities are safe.” Sheriff Briese
