Are You Interested in Running for Office?

the Elections Division

MADERA COUNTY–The November 5, 2024, Presidential General Election is quickly approaching and the Madera County Registrar of Voters has scheduled a workshop to help those interested in running for office.

Image of Rebecca Martinez.“We frequently receive calls from individuals who are interested in running for office,” explained Rebecca Martinez, Madera County’s long-time Registrar of Voters.

She continues, “I know that the process may seem complicated but it’s really not and we are here to help. The most important thing that potential candidates need to remember is that there are strict deadlines. Too often we hear from people after the filing period has closed but by then it’s too late.”

The candidate workshop will take place on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at 5:30pm. It will be in the Board of Supervisors Chambers at the Madera County Government Center.

The candidate filing period, for those seeking election or re-election, will open on July 15, 2024 at 8:00am. Candidates must make an appointment to start the process. The filing period will close on August 9, 2024 except in limited circumstances when an incumbent doesn’t seek reelection. Candidates should not wait until the last minute as there are no exceptions to the deadlines and the entire process must be complete prior to the end of the filing period.

“Conducting a Presidential General Election is a monumental task,” stated Martinez. “In order to serve everyone, we have streamlined the process to the greatest extent possible, including an online, phone or email appointment process.”

The Elections Division encourages candidates to visit  website at www.votemadera.com to make an appointment or for additional information.

Candidates without access to a smart phone or computer can call the office to schedule an appointment. Appointment times are available Monday through Friday during business hours. The Elections Division is available at (559) 675-7720 or at electionsinfo@maderacounty.com.
