60th Annual Coarsegold Rodeo

The first weekend in May marks the 60th Annual Coarsegold Rodeo, featuring Pro Rodeo both Saturday and Sunday at the Bohna Arena in Coarsegold. This is always a great family weekend!

Friday, May 4th – Heritage Days activities. Local area school children participate in a variety of fun activities at the arena. Contestants for Rodeo Queen, Princess and Little Princess will be introduced. The Coarsegold Community Center will host the rodeo dinner at 6pm, where the contestants will be interviewed by the judges.

Saturday, May 5th – The gates open at 10am, and the action kicks off with the Exceptional Kids Rodeo. Then at noon, Grand Marshal Rachel Boswell will lead the Grand Entry Procession and the Rodeo Royalty will be introduced. Pro Rodeo action gets underway at 1:30pm. Kick up your heels at the Rodeo Dance, from 8 to 11 p.m. on Saturday evening. The cost for the dance is just $5.

Sunday, May 6th – Everyone is invited to a good ‘ol Cowboy Breakfast at 8am, followed by Cowboy Church at 9. At noon, the Grand Entry will begin, and the Rodeo Queen and her court will be crowned by 2011 Rodeo Queen Alexia Arietta. At 1:30 Pro Rodeo action gets underway.

As in years past, Donnie Landis will be handling important duties as the Rodeo Clown, entertaining the crowd, and helping to keep the bucking stock distracted and the cowboys safe.

mutton bustersBoth days will include the wild and woolly kids’ Mutton Bustin’ competition, an event not to be missed! There will also be a mechanical bull on site so the kids can try out their cowboy skills, and various inflatables to bounce around on.

You won’t want to miss out on all the great food!

Todd’s BBQ will be there with Tri-tip, plus there will Indian Tacos, pizza, hot dogs, and a wide assortment of goodies. Be sure to spend some time visiting all the vendors, sample the fare at the various food booths, and check out the other rodeo activities. This is always a great family weekend!
