38th Annual Smokey Bear Run/Walk This Saturday At Bass Lake
BASS LAKE, CA – The Mountain Area Runners are thrilled to invite all running and walking enthusiasts to participate in the much-anticipated 38th Smokey Bear Run/Walk at the stunning Bass Lake, California, on Saturday, September 20, 2025. This event is not only a chance to celebrate fitness and community spirit but also a way to contribute to important local causes. Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit CAL FIRE, the USFS Fire Prevention Programs, and the Madera County Sheriff Volunteer Programs, highlighting the importance of fire safety and community service.

The Smokey Bear Run/Walk offers participants an opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking scenery that Bass Lake is known for while participating in a fun and challenging race. The courses are designed to cater to both serious runners and casual walkers, offering a scenic route along Road 222, which perfectly hugs the lakeside. Participants can choose between a 10k or a 2-mile option, both of which promise slightly rolling hills and spectacular views of the tranquil waters and surrounding forested areas.
To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants, Road 222 will be closed to all vehicles from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM during the event. This closure allows runners and walkers to traverse the course without worrying about traffic, enhancing the overall safety and enjoyment of the race. To get the best parking spots and avoid last-minute rushes, participants are encouraged to arrive early. The race will begin and end at the Recreation Point Day Use Area, located at 39900 Road 222, Bass Lake, CA 93604.
