34th Oakhurst Christmas Tree Lighting

OAKHURST–It’s time for the 34th annual Oakhurst Christmas Tree Lighting at the Talking Bear corner at Highway 41 and Road 426. This years event is on Saturday, December 2nd, 2023. The event starts at 4PM with local vendors, crafts, food and more! Music and entertainment starts at 4:30. The tree will light at 6:00 and Santa arrives immediately after on his big red sleigh! Rain, sleet, snow or clear skies…we will be there to welcome in the Christmas season. This event has become a Christmas time small town reunion and the goal is to keep it going for generations to come!

This year is going to be extra special with the christening of the new Oakhurst Christmas Tree. After many years of struggling with weather, drought and other issues in finding a town Christmas tree, Brad and Belinda Ditton have invested in a LIVE tree! With the assistance of Josh Nott-Rock Wonders, the tree, from Southern California was transported to the talking bear corner in October. Installation was made possible by Josh and his crew, Jim Denis-Denis Equipment and Cornerstone Gardening.

The new town Christmas tree, an Aptos Blue Redwood, is  carefully placed and planted with soil amendment. Also, PVC pipe to get water directly to the trees root system has been installed. Estimated to grow 5′ per year, the tree will serve the community of Oakhurst for years and years to come.

Never fear, the traditions of this day are still happening too! The school trees are ready to go! Special thanks go to John and Ellen Peterson and Anthony Noey for volunteering to install the trees. The beautiful Christmas trees are from Mountain Feed and Nursery in Coarsegold. (Thank you Bill and your great team for all your help.)
