COARSEGOLD – The late Scottish soccer manager Bill Shankly famously said, “[Soccer] is a matter of life and death, except more important.”
Area kids ages 15 and under have a chance to find out of that’s true, provided they sign up for soccer soon.
Mountain Area Youth Soccer League (MAYSL) registration is taking place now and the deadline for turning in paperwork has been extended to August 15.
MAYSL is a community youth soccer league and member of the California Youth Soccer Association, District 7. The group is open to players 15 and under. Teams are forming now, so it’s important to register as soon as possible in order to play for the fall season.
New players will require a copy of their birth certificates along with the completed registration form and a check made payable to MAYSL. Registration forms are available on the MAYSL website. According to organizers, the only players the group can accept after the August 15 deadline are those who have just moved into the area and did not know about MAYSL.
Cost for registration is $70 for under-12 and $80 for under-15, with a $5 discount for siblings.
Also on tap for MAYSL is a Coaches “F” Clinic on Aug. 10, starting at 8 a.m. at Rivergold Elementary School in room 502 (near the upper parking lot above the field). The clinic is scheduled to last at least seven hours and it’s recommended that coaches bring a lunch.
Every coach is required to have an “F” license. Coaches for older kids (above 12-under) require an “E” license. More information and details about “E” clinics can be found at the District 7 website, for those who cannot attend this weekend’s clinic.
A coaches meeting to get rosters will take place on Aug. 29 starting at 6:30 p.m., also at Rivergold, this time in room 604. Live Scan will be on site and coaches must have completed requirements for “F” license.
Registration packet should be mailed to MAYSL via P.O. Box 908, Coarsegold, CA. 93614
