Yosemite Western Artists Show & Reception

MADERA – The Madera County Arts Council will be hosting their 43rd Tri-County Show & Reception on Friday, May 29, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the Circle Gallery in Madera.

The exhibition is open to the public through May 30, with 40 pieces representing award winners and artists from the 43rd Tri-County Art Show, which opened with over 100 pieces.

“This show is our first opportunity to display art work from the Yosemite Western Artist collective,” says Diane Mello, Executive Director, Madera County Arts Council. “A wide variety of mediums is on display, including skillful techniques using spalted maple, composite digital photographs, oils on canvas, acrylic, pastels, fabric, charcoal, paper, silk, ink, gourd, and more.”

Yosemite Western Artists is a ‘Not for Profit’ organization established in 1969. An association of artists and art patrons work in all disciplines and are dedicated to promoting the arts and artists in the Eastern Sierra Foothills.

To this day they continue to meet weekly at the historic one-room Gertrude School House located on Road 600 in Ahwahnee. They gather for the Painting from Life sessions every Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In addition they hold sessions for Plein Air workshops and Photo Group sessions. You may also experience YWA every third Saturday of the month ( September – May ) for an informative demonstration, potluck and sharing of ideas and techniques with local artists.

The artworks portray a broad range of content and subject, including figurative, landscape, conceptual and portrait studies in two- and three-dimensional formats.

Shannon Grissom - FormidableYWA generously offered to travel to Circle Gallery as a first time historical showing outside of Eastern Madera County, highlighting artistic talents from Madera, Mariposa, and Fresno counties. The YWA artist membership legacy includes internationally known Western artist Donald “Putt” Putman (1926 – 2007), and currently they yield a membership of talented painters, sculptors, photographers, fiber and mixed media artists.

All ages and communities are welcome and encouraged to experience the art at this special exhibit, and enjoy live music and light refreshments at the reception on May 29.

The reception is a way of gathering all patrons, artists and art enthusiasts of the arts to experience the beauty and power of art for a shared experience.
