Had a great hike with two old friends in Yosemite last week. We hiked the Pohono Train from the Tunnel View, 3400′ elevation gain to Inspiration, Stanford and Crocker Points, about 10 miles in all. Beautiful weather but no snow, unfortunately
As we start up we get this great view of Bridalveil Fall:
Lots of downed trees to crawl over and under. Candace catches me here:
Gail and Candace pass through a willow grove along Silver Strand Creek as we top out at over 7,000′:
Our first reward is at Stanford Point:
Looking across the Valley at Ribbon Falls and a modest rainbow:
We reach Crocker Point and our lunch stop at 7,100 feet. Ribbon Fall is in the distance on the left. Another .6 mile and we would have reached Dewey Point, but I didn’t want to push my bum leg any more than I already had (thanks to modern medicine).
On the return trip we get a great, might I say iconic, view of El Cap, Clouds Rest, and Half Dome:
Almost back to the tunnel Candace captures this nice view:
Great report Keith – thank you! Headed to the valley next week and want to try this trail for the first time. You said there are quite a few downed trees…is the route still clear? I assume it probably got some snow over the weekend, but is largely melted out by now…
