OAKHURST: Yosemite National Park will host a public meeting in Oakhurst, California from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 on the upcoming Glacier Point Road Rehabilitation Project. All are welcome to attend this public meeting, which will be held at the Oakhurst Community Center. The park will also host a webinar on September 4th, 2019.
The park encourages you to provide comments on the project at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/glacierpointroadrehab
The Glacier Point Road Rehabilitation Project will address multiple safety issues on the ten miles of road located between the intersection to the Badger Pass Ski Area and the Glacier Point Parking Area.
Some of the safety and other issues that will be addressed in this project include:
- Pulverize and repave the ten miles of road between Badger Pass and Glacier Point.
- Repair the narrow hairpin turns between Washburn Point and Glacier Point to address vehicular safety issues.
- Construct additional parking and new vault toilets near the Sentinel Dome Trailhead.
Yosemite National Park staff will provide presentations on the project between 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., followed by an open house from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
National Park Service staff will also provide information on upcoming roadwork on Tioga Road.
Critical road work on Glacier Point Road is scheduled to begin in spring 2021. The park anticipates closing the Glacier Point Road for the entire 2021 visitor season, with traffic delays on Glacier Point Road in 2022. The project will not affect winter recreation at Badger Pass or the Glacier Point Road.
More detailed information on this project, associated public comment materials, and the webinar link are available at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/glacierpointroadrehab.
