Yosemite High to Hold Graduation Parade Tonight in Oakhurst

Special to Sierra News Online

OAKHURST — Yosemite High School is having a “virtual-reality graduation” today beginning at 5 p.m.

To honor graduates, the town is holding a graduation parade. The parade starts at 5 p.m. and is scheduled to end around 6 p.m.

Graduates will be escorted by their families in cars. The parade route is similar to the Heritage Day Parade route, only this parade will begin at the EVFree Church parking lot.

“This is our chance as a community to come out and support our graduates. We understand that these are unprecedented times we are living in. At this point, we have all been practicing social distancing and should be pretty good at it. If you want to go and support the students but are worried about being near other people, you may always stay in your car.”

YHS has gone through all of the proper channels and been given permission –and very enthusiastic support — to hold the parade.

“So, with that in mind, we are asking you to come out and cheer these graduates on. Bring your noise makers and decorated banners. It would also be a wonderful sight to see everyone decorate their cars on Wednesday. Let’s see who has school/town spirit.”

If you would like to help, please contact Denise Davies or Karina Leyva. (If you have a graduating senior and have not yet been contacted, please contact Karina.)

School Road will be closing at 4:50 p.m. on Wednesday and the parade will start promptly at 5 p.m.
