Yosemite High Cross Country Team Hosting ‘Virtual Race’

OAKHURST — The Yosemite High School cross country team is hosting a virtual run/walk that participants can do at home — or anywhere in the world — any time they like until May 24.

To participate, just sign up here and then give proof of your best run or walk between May 3 and May 24.

Proceeds from the virtual event on Active will help support the activities of the YHS Cross Country team.

Coach Kim Lawhon says the team does a lot of off-season fundraising by helping at local running events. “With the COVID-19 cancellations, this is a safe way for the team to try to recover from lost fundraisers,” Lawhon adds.

There won’t be medals but winners (male and female) from each category will receive a Badger in Quarantine shirt by mail.

The “family-friendly” includes with numerous age categories, including children.

Virtual races will be: ages 0-5 racing 1/4 mile, 6-8 racing 1/2 mile, 9-11 racing 1 mile, 12-14 racing 2 mile, and all others 5k 15-20, 21-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60+.

“We also have a 2-mile walk for adults,” Lawhon says.

Results will be published May 25 through the race website host active.com

“This is a great way to get outside and stay active,” Lawhon said. “People can go out just a single time to run or walk or just choose their best one before May 24th.”

“This is a virtual run so people run it at their convenience, wherever they like,” Lawhon added. W”e’d love to see pictures of your race day at home.”

Participants can also buy a YHS “Badger in Quarantine” t-shirt for $20 when signing up for a race.
