YNP Celebrates 40th Anniversary of Deaf Services Program

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK — Yosemite National Park will celebrate the 40th anniversary of its Deaf Services Program by hosting a series of special events Oct. 11-14 for members of the Deaf community. The event will be the largest gathering of the Deaf community in Yosemite’s history, according to park officials.

During the four-day celebration, YNP will be offering a wide variety of programs and activities presented in American Sign Language (ASL).

The gathering will be one of the largest events held in a national park that is specifically designed for members of the Deaf community and more than 200 people from across the United States have already registered to attend.

All activities are open to the public. Tickets and advance registration is required for some activities. To see the full event schedule and additional details, go to https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/ds40.htm.

Since the Deaf Services program launched in 1979, Yosemite National Park has been dedicated to connecting the Deaf community to the national park. Sign language interpreting and assistive listening devices are available for free for all programs in the park.
