YHS Teacher Seeks Understanding With Gender Change

OAKHURST – Veteran Yosemite High School science teacher Gary Sconce has gone public about his decision to live as a woman.

The popular teacher will return to YHS after spring break with a new gender identity and a new name – Karen Scot.

Ms. Scot released a statement to the media about what her hopes are for the future.

“I will continue to teach my heart out like I have for thirty years, and will endeavor to be the best science teacher I can,” Scot said in her statement. “As I more forward with my life, I ask for kindness and understanding with the hope I can leave all this furor behind and just be myself, like anyone else.”

YHS officials have sent out a letter to parents and will have counselors on hand for any students who have questions or concerns.

The school notes that California’s Education Code prohibits discrimination based on gender identity.YHS Letter about Gary Sconce 3-19-14

  1. Doesn’t make an attractive woman … scary! I don’t know how I feel about this, it’s weird.

  2. So if you are saying that a woman is not attractive, this diminishes her worth in our society? That’s the problem these days. There’s too much emphasis placed on being pretty. What about being smart and spiritually beautiful from the inside?
