Wreck On 426 Causes Serious Injury; Arrest Made

OAKHURST – A head-on collision on Road 426 in Oakhurst on Friday, Aug.31, resulted to injuries to three children and two adults. All were transported to Fresno area hospitals, and one young girl was air-lifted by Skylife to Community Regional Medical Center.

A person in the area who heard the accident called it in at 6:25 p.m. California Highway Patrol, Cal Fire and Sierra Ambulance responded to the scene, which closed Road 426 in both directions.

According to witnesses on the scene, a silver Dodge van traveling west towards Oakhurst on Road 426, crossed over the double yellow line on the curve between Elliot Drive and School Road (Road 427) and struck another vehicle head-on. The wreck happened in front of the China Creek Bed & Breakfast at 49522 Road 426.

The names of those involved are not yet available from the CHP, but it has been confirmed by Merced Dispatch that the female driver of the van has been arrested, and that a technician was sent to obtain blood samples.

    Can not believe someone would drive drunk, let alone with a child in the car.

    Heart goes out to the inoccent people and children that were hurt because of her careless act.
