Wreck Backs Up Traffic Near Goldside Drive

OAKHURST – An accident on Highway 49 near Goldside Drive caused traffic backup for nearly an hour as the scene was cleared.

Around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, Sean McMahon, 25, of North Fork was pulling out of a driveway on the east side of Highway 49, in a 1996 Jeep towing a trailer, preparing to head south.

Jeep and Sierra Ambulance 5-7-13According to CHP, McMahon pulled out into the path of a northbound 1997 Mercury, driven by James Knell, 86, of Mariposa.

Knell was unable to stop in time, and collided with the trailer, causing major damage to the front of his car and to the trailer. The Jeep was not damaged.

The passenger in Knell’s vehicle, Elaine Nevis, 82, also of Mariposa, complained of some pain, and was transported by ambulance for medical attention.

Cal Fire Engines #4295 and #4264 responded along with Madera County Fire #16 Ahwahnee, Sierra Ambulance and CHP.
