OAKHURST – Spring Saturdays are full of creative offerings in the foothills, and this Saturday, Apr. 25, anyone looking for the perfect handmade token or souvenir will want to check out the Woodcarver’s Craft Fair at the Oakhurst Community Center, starting at 10 a.m.
The Woodcarver’s Craft Fair is the culminating event of the 8th Annual Woodcarver’s Rendezvous. Visitors can stop by for free from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a look at unique pieces, handmade by artists who’ve already gathered for a week of workshops and conviviality.
The general public is encouraged to stop in to see the finished projects that participating crafters have to show. Visitors will be treated to displays of carvers in action, live demonstrations and a vast selection of finished projects from the week, some of which will be available to purchase. Artists have been invited to showcase their creativity, learn new techniques and above all, have fun.
For a week, all levels of carvers have enjoyed carving sessions, demonstrations and seminars. Class examples include carving in cottonwood bark, wood turning and more. The event simultaneously offered arts and craft programs such as special leather classes and pine needle basket weaving.
Woodcarvers travel from far away to attend this special week sponsored by the California Carvers Guild, Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce, and Yosemite Sierra Visitors Bureau.
