Woman Who Caused Deadly Crash Arraigned

FRESNO – The woman charged with vehicular manslaughter in the death of Yosemite High School graduate and former Oakhurst resident Matthew Harkenrider, was arraigned today in her hospital room, reports ABC30 in Fresno.

Roberta Lynn Soto, 45, of Kingsburg, pleaded not guilty to the charges as a judge, officers and attorneys gathered in her hospital room.

Soto is recovering from her injuries after she ran a red light in a stolen car and crashed into Harkenriders vehicle, causing a multi-car pileup at Fresno St. and Herndon in Fresno on Aug. 14. Six other people were injured in the crash.

Investigators say Soto was high on methamphetamine when the collision happened just after 7 a.m. last Thursday.

The judge gave Soto more time to consult with her attorney, and she is to be back in court in September. Bail is set at over $170,000.
