Woman Wanted By Police Is Arrested After Being Assaulted

OAKHURST – A San Diego woman, who is known to spend time in both Wawona and Oakhurst, is behind bars facing assault charges, but not before being assaulted herself.

Rebecca Renee Simmons, 46, was taken into custody this morning at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

She was rescued from inside a structure at a mini storage facility located on Winding Way in Oakhurst at around 1:30 a.m. this morning.

According to reports, she had suffered a laceration to her face from a pitchfork. Her assailant has been identified as Dennis Lloyd Gandy of Oakhurst. The two are familiar with each other, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Gandy is wanted for assault with a deadly weapon and battery.
