Snow Advisory For Foothills Above 2,500 Feet

MOUNTAIN AREA — The National Weather Service (NWS) has upgraded the next storm system to a Winter Storm Warning, as rain and snow return to the area, and freezing overnight temps prevail. In the foothills above 2,500 feet, there’s a Winter Weather Advisory for snow — up to seven inches is expected, according to the NWS.

NWS has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Mariposa, Madera and Fresno County Foothills above 2,500 feet, including the towns of Ahwahnee, Bass Lake, Coarsegold, Fish Camp, Mariposa, North Fork, and Oakhurst. The advisory for snow is in effect from 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9 through noon on Sunday, Feb. 10.

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Expect snow-covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.

Snow is expected, with a total snow accumulation of up to 7 inches anticipated. Travel could be difficult.

Storm Warning 

The NWS has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Sierra Nevada from Yosemite to Kings Canyon and the Tulare County Mountains, starting on Friday, Feb. 8,  at 4 p.m. and in effect through 4 a.m. Monday morning. The warning includes the towns of Bass Lake, Fish Camp, and Wawona.

A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, plenty of food, and a good deal of water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

Heavy snow is expected. Total snow accumulations of one to three feet are likely, with isolated amounts of four feet near Yosemite National Park. A few inches of snow is possible in elevations between 3,000 and 4,000 feet. Winds could gust as high as 65 mph on exposed ridgetops and near the crest.

Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions may impact the morning and evening commute. Strong winds could cause cause extensive damage to trees and power lines. The latest road conditions can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.
