Will Desmond Betray Bertha?

Submitted by Sarah Persson

OAKHURST – Summer is almost here! You can feel it as the weather is warming up, hear it with sounds of happy children knowing their school year is closing to an end, and taste it by the wonderful offerings of watermelon and cherries being sold by the side of the road.

Another sign that summer is here is the traditional summer melodrama offered at the Golden Chain Theatre. This time it’s the hilarious Bertha the Beautiful Typewriter Girl, opening Friday, June 5.

The show will run on Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m., and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m., through June 28. Filled with the raging conflict between good and evil, this enticing play finds bank owner Daniel Desmond employing vile attempts to betray Bertha, the beautiful typewriter girl, who may get cozy with Daniel’s son David.

Come prepared to boo, hiss and sigh. This is a fun show for the whole family!

The role of Bertha is played by Alli Ruiz and the role of Daniel Desmond is played by Peter Clarke, and Daniel’s son David Desmond is played by Matt Van De Wal. The play is directed by Jennifer Varner.
