Wildfire Community Preparedness Day In Ahwahnee

AHWAHNEE — The community is invited to a wildfire preparedness and prevention workday at Ahwahnee Hills Regional Park, in advance of what’s expected to be a busy fire season. The event is set for Saturday, May 5 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the park.

With representatives from local fire agencies on hand to educate the public, an opportunity for volunteers to pitch in on prepping the park for summer, and a free lunch for your trouble — it’s shaping up to be a great way to spend a day.

The 400-acre park is operated by the non-profit Friends of Ahwahnee Hills Regional Park. The park receives no tax funding and runs exclusively on donations and the volunteer efforts of the local community.

People are encouraged to stop by on the Wildfire Community Preparedness Day to meet local firefighters, and learn how to protect home and property from wildfires.

Participants in the workday are asked to bring garden gloves, weed eaters, wheelbarrows, saws, rakes, shovels and gardening tools. Wear long pants and closed toed shoes.

Friends of Ahwahnee Hills Regional Park will provide bottled water, snacks and lunch to all work day participants.
