Westfall Fire Burning North Of Highway 49

MARIPOSA COUNTY – Traffic control has been put in place at the intersection of E. Westfall Road and Chowchilla Mountain Road due to a fire burning in the area.

E. Westfall has been closed completely at that location, and Chowchilla Mountain Road is open only to those deemed by law enforcement to require access, including residents with identification.

The fire was reported just after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug 20, and is estimated at four to five acres as of 3:20 p.m., with multiple spot fires and three structures threatened. Engines are staging to protect those structures, and crews continue to work on hose lays and hand lines.

Two additional strike teams and hand crews, two more dozers and additional aircraft are being requested.

Engines from Cal Fire, Madera and Mariposa County Fire Departments, and Sierra National Forest are on scene, along with dozers, and aircraft on the way.

Please avoid this area if possible as fire equipment needs clear access to do their job.
