Virtual Yosemite: Visit Yosemite’s High Country With a Virtual Trip to Westfall Meadows

YOSEMITE — As distance learning and home schooling resume, online activities for students can include exploration of spectacular natural environments such as Yosemite National Park. The Virtual Yosemite in-depth online tour can help facilitate this.

When the normal summer crowds congregate in Yosemite Valley, an escape to the peace of less traveled treasures in the park becomes a draw for many.

Westfall Meadows is one such destination – a relatively easy and level hike (about three miles round trip) off the Glacier Point Road.  Summer temperatures here remain relatively cool due to the 8,000′ elevation, even while Yosemite Valley swelters.

If you time it right, you’ll encounter numerous wildflowers in bloom.  This panoramic image, shot on the first day of August, shows a massive carpet of yarrow in bloom, along with countless fritillaries (orange butterflies) feeding.

For more information about the hike and getting here, check out the wonderful and in-depth details offered by our friends at Yosemite Hikes.
