MADERA COUNTY – Two people killed in a head-on collision on Highway 145 yesterday have been identified by the Madera County Sheriff’s Office.
Heidi Vanzeyl, 53, of Coarsegold, was the right-front passenger the gray Ford Fusion involved in the crash.
The driver of the Ford, Sasha Watson, 27, of Coarsegold, was passing in an unsafe manner, witnesses told CHP, and was in the opposing lane of traffic when she crashed into an oncoming Hyundai sedan on Highway 145 near Road 208.
Vanzeyl suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Two rear-seat passengers in the Ford were injured and transported to Community Regional Medical Center. Both are expected to recover.
Watson was also taken to CRMC. Her condition is not known.
The driver of the Hyundai, Karri Lynn Peterson, 51, of Oakhurst, was also killed in the collision.
The accident remains under investigation.
