Vegetation Fire Threatens Structures In Coarsegold

COARSEGOLD — Crews rushed this afternoon to the scene of a grass fire burning on Hidden Knolls Road just south of Road 415.

At 1:18 p.m. the first engine on scene reported the Knolls fire at about two acres, burning in grass with a moderate rate of spread. As resources continued to arrive, reports came in of structures threatened and vehicles involved.

CHP and Sheriff’s deputies responded to determine whether it would be necessary to close down Road 415. At this time, traffic is open in both directions, but motorists need to slow and be aware of fire equipment in the area.

Air tankers were called in as crews on the ground staged for structure protection. PG&E was called to the scene when it was reported that power lines were down on the right flank of the fire.

Resources just then being released from fires in the valley were diverted to the Knolls fire.

By 1:52 p.m. the hose lay was complete around the fire and all resources not already at scene were called off. The incident commander estimates two hours for mop-up and total control. The final estimated size of the fire is five acres.

The cause of remains under investigation.
