Vegetation Fire Near Ahwahnee

AHWAHNEE – Firefighters made quick work of a vegetation fire reported just west of Nippanawassee on Tuesday afternoon at 3:45 p.m.

The first engine on scene of the incident on Back Road, between Metcalf Gap and Crooks Mountain Road, reported the fire at approximately one-half acre, burning in dry grass.

Engines from Cal Fire and Sierra National Forest responded, along with two crews out of Mount Bullion, plus an Air Attack and air tanker out of Fresno.

Crews had the fire contained within 15 minutes of the dispatch, and expect to call it controlled by 5:15 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Just as a reminder to residents, all outdoor burning has been banned by Cal Fire as of June 1.
