Vegetation Fire Burns 25 Acres

MADERA COUNTY – A vegetation fire between Ahwahnee and Raymond yesterday kept firefighters busy out on the lines, as others moved up to cover at stations whose engines had been dispatched.

At 3:19 p.m. on Wednesday, Apr. 23, Mariposa Command Center received a report of a vegetation fire burning in the area of Road 800 and Road 810 in rural Madera County.

Seven engines, two water tenders and three hand crews responded to the scene and by 6:03 p.m., had the fire 50% contained. Crews worked through the night and are in mop-up mode as of 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

Dubbed the Bailey Fire, the blaze grew to about 25 acres before crews stopped its progress. Only vegetation was burned, and no structures were lost.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
