NORTH FORK — The Manzanita Fire started early in the morning of Jan. 19, near Lake Drive and Road 222, in North Fork.
The fire is currently at 45 percent containment and has charred 23 acres.
While the Mono Winds raged, first responders were battling a blaze at the mill site near Road 225 and Douglas Ranger Station in North Fork. Crews were abruptly diverted to the new fire. It was difficult to access in the first few hours and grew while additional fires were reported throughout the community.
From the Hanford Weather Service:
“Winds materializing in the Sierra. Gusts to over 85 mph reported in Cascadel Heights just above North Fork at 10:15 p.m. Expect a very windy night to continue with damaging winds. A High Wind Warning is in effect.”
CAL FIRE Madera Mariposa Merced Unit (MMU) is in command.
