Update On Missing Hikers In Sierra

FRESNO COUNTY – The search for four women in the Sierra Mountains near Lake Italy has been suspended, according to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

On July 24, Search and Rescue mountaineers made contact with hikers who had been in contact with the four females on the John Muir Trail near Silver Pass.

The hikers reported the women were all in good condition, and had resumed hiking north to their destination in Tuolumne County.

The women advised the hikers of their call to the Sheriff’s Office when they became disoriented due to smoke from the Aspen Fire.

All Sheriff’s SAR personnel have been removed from the search area, and family members of the women have been advised.
