Two-Vehicle Crash Near Black Hawk Lodge

O’NEALS – A two-vehicle accident just north of Road 200 blocked Highway 41 for about 15 minutes this morning, and slowed traffic for about 30 minutes more as one-lane traffic control was put in place.

At about 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29, Michael Simpson, 35, of Oakhurst, was southbound on Highway 41 near the Black Hawk Lodge in a 1997 Toyota T100 pickup.

He was following a 2013 Chevy Equinox driven by Anthony Scurria, 72, of Bass Lake, and a motorhome.

As all three vehicles approached the passing lanes, Simpson pulled to the left to pass the Equinox and the motorhome.

Scurria, in the Chevy Equinox, apparently did not see the pickup starting to pass him, and began to move out to pass the motorhome, clipping Simpson’s truck and causing him to spin out, crashing off the right side of the road.

Simpson suffered unknown injuries and was transported by Sierra Ambulance to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

Scurria was not injured, and was able to drive his car away. The motorhome was not involved in the collision.
