Two-Vehicle Crash Blocks Highway 41 Near YLP

COARSEGOLD — Traffic was stopped in both directions along Highway 41 this afternoon for a two-vehicle accident between Road 200 and Yosemite Springs Parkway.

According to CHP at the scene, just before 1 p.m. a Toyota Highlander driven by a 75-year-old man from Madera was pulling out of the driveway at Bible Story Land into traffic to turn north onto Highway 41.

At the same time, a Mercury Sable driven by a 55-year-old woman from Oakhurst was southbound on Highway 41 approaching the location.

The driver of the southbound Mercury saw the Toyota pulling out directly in front of her, slammed on the brakes, and veered to the left. However, she was unable to avoid the collision and her vehicle struck the Toyota, with the vehicles coming to rest blocking both lanes of the road.

The driver of the Toyota and his 63-year-old wife both reported complaints of pain and were transported by ground ambulance to Saint Agnes Hospital in Fresno.

Suffering pain to her neck, chest, and abdomen, the driver of the Mercury was taken to Kaiser in Fresno.

The roadway was blocked for over an hour and traffic was backed up for several miles in both directions.

The accident remains under investigation.
