Two-Vehicle Accident Blocks Road 274

NORTH FORK – Two North Fork residents found themselves tangled up on Road 274 this afternoon in an accident that apparently totaled both vehicles.

Tony Beguez was southbound on Road 274 just before 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, in a maroon Chevy Z71 pickup. He was pulling a small utility trailer, and was preparing to turn left into a lane just north of Putney Ranch Road.

Beguez says he put on his turn signal, slowed down and stuck his left hand out the window to indicate his intentions to turn.

Chevy Z71 pickupJohn Grow was also southbound and was right behind Beguez in a white GMC pickup. Grow thought that the truck ahead of him was slowing and waving him to go around.

As Grow moved into the left lane to go around, Beguez made his left-hand turn, and Grow crashed into the driver’s side of the Chevy, causing the GMC to spin completely around and both trucks came to rest in the northbound lane.

“It was a beautiful truck,” said Beguez, who had just recently purchased the pickup, and said he had spent over $3,000 putting new tires and wheels on it.

Beguez’s son brought his pickup to the scene of the crash to tow away the trailer.

CHP responded to investigate and implemented traffic control, letting through one lane at a time until Doc’s Towing arrived to clear the roadway.
