MADERA COUNTY — Just after 7 p.m. today firefighters were called to the scene of a fire burning near Millerton Lake on Highway 145 near Road 206 in the Friant area.
Crews from Cal Fire and Madera County Fire were arriving on scene when another blaze was reported nearby on Road 145 closer to the entrance station to the lake.
Air Attack confirmed the second fire and the first engine on that scene reported the fire at approximately one acre burning in grass at a moderate rate of spread.
Two tankers and a helicopter were requested and, before their expertise could be utilized, both fires were reportedly contained by ground crews at scene.
By 7:45 p.m. air resources were released and other resources not at scene were canceled.
Additional time is required for mop-up.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
