Victims ID’d in Double Fatal After Car Plunges into Bass Lake

BASS LAKE – An early morning crash on Road 222 near the Forks Resort claimed the lives of two eastern Madera County residents.

“The occupants of the submerged vehicle discovered this morning in Bass Lake were pronounced deceased at the scene,” said the Madera County Sheriff’s Office in a release posted on the agency’s Facebook page.

CHP identified the accident victims as 21-year-old Samuel Rosasco of Oakhurst and 17-year-old Karina Barnett of Ahwahnee.

According to CHP, Rosasco was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.

“CHP Oakhurst is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident,” MCSO’s release also stated.

According to initial reports, the vehicle, a 2006 Toyota, veered off the road and landed upside down in Bass Lake.

CHP, Madera County Sheriff’s deputies and EMS responded to reports of the accident just after 7:30 a.m. this morning (Sept. 11).

The vehicle was nearly submerged, with only several inches of the tires exposed, before it was pulled from the lake at 11 a.m.
