Traffic Snarled Following Highway 41 Crash In Coarsegold

COARSEGOLD – A two-vehicle crash on Highway 41 at Lucky Lane this evening sent one person to the hospital and snarled traffic for about 30 minutes.

Just after 6 p.m., a 43-year-old woman from Ahwahnee was northbound on Highway 41 in a red 2006 Mustang approaching Lucky Lane when she failed to recognize that the light had turned red, according to CHP at the scene.

A 72-year-old woman from Coarsegold in a silver Jetta had the green light on Lucky Lane and entered the intersection to turn south onto Highway 41.

The driver of the Mustang realized too late that the light was red and slammed on the brakes, but she hit the Jetta broadside and both vehicles came to rest blocking the southbound lanes.

The driver of the Mustang suffered lacerations to her arm and her 69-year-old passenger, also from Ahwahnee, was uninjured.

The driver of the Jetta had complaints of pain to her neck, shoulders and abdomen and was transported to St. Agnes in Fresno.

Traffic control was put in place until the vehicles could be pushed out of the roadway, but Highway 41 remained open.

The accident remains under investigation.
