O’NEALS — A collision between a tanker truck and a Jeep on Highway 41 resulted in a hazardous fuel spill — and a multi-hour road closure and detour for motorists traveling on Highway 41.
The accident, which occurred shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, snarled traffic, with backups reportedly stretching for miles in both directions along the detour route.
According to CHP, the fuel tanker and the Jeep collided along Highway 41 near Jewel Vista Drive.
The crash caused a puncture in the fuel tanker’s gas tank, causing about 30 gallons of fuel to spill on the roadway, CHP said.
The accident occurred about 5.7 miles north of the junction of Highway 41 and State Route 145.
No injuries were reported.
During the closure of Highway 41, officers diverted southbound traffic onto Road 200 and northbound traffic to Road 208.
Update: Shortly after 6:15 p.m., Caltrans reported Highway 41 had been reopened in both directions.
