Three Vehicle Crash Jams Up Friday Afternoon Traffic In Oakhurst

OAKHURST – A three-vehicle crash on the north end of Oakhurst this afternoon added another glitch to today’s troubles along Highway 41.

At 2:47 p.m., three southbound vehicles got caught up in a crash in front of El Cid Mexican Restaurant. All three drivers are from Oakhurst, according to CHP at the scene.

A 72-year-old woman was southbound at the location in a 2017 Jeep Wrangler. Right behind her was a Subaru Crosstrek driven by an 18-year-old female, followed by a 27-year-old male in a Chevy S-10.

As traffic slowed ahead of the group, the Jeep and the Subaru both slowed to a stop. However the driver of the S-10 was traveling at a high rate of speed, according to CHP, and slammed into the back of the Subaru, pushing it into the back of the Jeep.

The force of the impact caused the S-10 and the Subaru to become stuck together, and they were removed from the roadway as a unit, and then pulled apart by two tow trucks.

The driver of the Jeep was uninjured, and the driver of the Subaru suffered minor injuries that did not require her to be transported for treatment.

The injuries suffered by the driver of the S-10 were categorized as minor by CHP, however he had to be assisted from the smashed pickup, according to a witness, and was transported to St. Agnes in Fresno.

Though the vehicles were pulled into the parking lot at El Cid in short order, traffic was backed up about 1/2 mile in either direction for about 20 minutes.

The accident remains under investigation.
