Thousands Stolen From Coarsegold Campground

COARSEGOLD – The Madera County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Labor Day break-in at a popular campground in Coarsegold.

More than $44,000 in cash and personal checks vanished from Yosemite South KOA’s main office sometime after midnight.

Guests say at around 2:30 a.m. they awoke to sounds of a motorcycle pulling out of the campground at a high rate of speed. Hours later, the manager discovered someone not only broke into the main office but had vandalized an adjacent restroom as well.

The 30-plus acre family hideaway is located off heavily traveled Highway 41 just south of Coarsegold proper.

Anyone with information is urged to call either the Madera County Sheriff’s Office at 559-675-7770 or CRIME STOPPERS at 559-498-STOP.
