Thieves May Be Targeting Christmas Packages

MADERA COUNTY – Late this afternoon, the Sheriff’s Office received a call about a suspicious U-Haul truck that appears to be canvassing neighborhoods, looking for packages left on doorsteps.

The truck was seen at around noon on Monday, Dec. 15, on Little Lake Road in Oakhurst.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, there were two white males inside the truck. One of them exited the vehicle and walked onto someone’s property, where UPS had just made a delivery.

The vehicle is described as a white U-Haul style moving truck.

Sheriff John Anderson is warning residents to be on guard this holiday season. Do what you can do to protect packages delivered to your front door.

This incident should serve as a reminder to folks who are waiting for deliveries. Let neighbors know when you will be away, and ask them to retrieve your packages for safe storage while you are gone.

Meantime, anyone who may have information about the two Caucasian males seen driving through mountain residential neighborhoods and parking in front of their homes, is urged to call the Madera County Sheriff’s Office at 559-675-7770.
