OAKHURST – The town’s pizza restaurants have gone head-to-head for the second year in a row, in a light-hearted competition to determine who makes the “Best Pizza in Oakhurst.” The fundraiser, sponsored by the Sierra Oakhurst Kiwanis, pits five of the areas favorite pizza joints against one another with the community at large paying for the chance to vote on “best pizza.”
The event was held Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Community Center, and met with great success.
Bruce Howard was one of the event organizers. He reports that the incumbent was crowned victor, holding the title for another year.
“Pizza Factory was again the winner of the Best Pizza in Oakhurst contest,” Howard reports. “Five restaurants competed, including DiCicco’s, Me-N-Ed’s, Sugarpine Gourmet Pizza, Round Table and Pizza Factory. In addition, football playoff games were available to watch, courtesy of Dish Network and Sears Hometown Store owner Dwan Foster. Without the generosity of these seven businesses this event could not exist.”
Howard says the organization raised over $2,000. The proceeds will go toward scholarships to graduating seniors at Minarets and Yosemite High Schools. Plans are underway for next year’s contest.
